The ‘Virtual Fireplace’ project illustrates how personal and information technologies can be incorporated in the home: it was created as a research development project for Nokia multimedia terminals. The proposal began by looking at how the introduction of the television changed the dynamic of the home: the fireplace was no longer the hub, instead the television becomes the gathering point of the domestic environment completely altering the social dynamics.
